Summer heat has arrived; it's going to be 94 today! Woo, I was not ready for that after such a glorious spring! But here we go, here is our TOP family fun summer bucket list for middle Tennessee!
- Set up a sprinkler under the trampoline --- instant fun!
- Go for an early morning waterfall hike and end with a cold swim at our favorite places Old Stone Fort Archaeological State Park, or Rutledge Falls in Tullahoma (a private waterfall, short hike to the bottom but open to the public!)
- Tim Ford's Lake, rent a boat for the day or go swimming at Dry Creek Beach.
- Check out your local outdoor swimming pool; many cities/counties have an outdoor pool. We love going to the Lewisburg Rec Center for open swim.
- Rent a house on one of our favorite lakes for a mini summer vacation at Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama.
- Stay up late, chase the lightning bugs, grab a telescope and look at the stars.
- Set up a tent in the backyard and have a little camp-out or sleep under the stars on the trampoline!
- Make homemade ice cream!
- Go Blueberry Picking, eat all the berries and make some jam! This usually starts at the end of June/beginning of July here in TN.
- AND don't forget to tube or kayak down the Duck River -- this is one of our favorites...we make lots of stops along the way, and we see tons of turtles, blue herons, and so much wildlife! Did you know the Duck River is the 2nd most biologically diverse river in the world, housing 70 different species of mussels. Check out River Rats or Higher Pursuits for tub or canoe/Kayak rentals!
- Go see an outdoor movie at one of the old Drive-in Movie theaters! There are only a few left in the United States...Lewisburg has one of them!
- Hit up the roller-rink on those super hot days! Fayetteville Star Wheels or Brentwood Skate Center.
You only have so many summers with your kiddos -- make them count! Do all the fun things & make all the memories!
