tennessee_homesteadrealtor Hey friends, it’s Brittany Parker here, back with another historical home tour. My favorite home from the Maury Christmas historic home tour is Arkland. This 1850 Williamsport home sits on top of the hill, or as its original owner, Jane Dorsett Greenfield, called it, the “high mountain” upon which Norah’s ark came to rest after the flood. Arkland is filled to the brim with some of the most amazing unique antiques and wallpaper. Its current owners, John and Elizabeth, have an artistic eye for detail, and they’ve done a spectacular job restoring this home. The home was designed in the “piano style,” with the front resembling an old square piano... the best part is that the front is painted pink. Y’all know how I love a pink home! tennessee_homesteadrealtor Hey friends – it’s Brittany Parker here… Last Saturday, my friend Kristin and I went on the Maury Christmas Historic Home Tour. If you’ve never been and you’re local, add this to your list of “must do” for December next year. We had such a great time, and it’s a great way to learn more about our town’s history and support the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities (APTA). The Christmas tour is their biggest fundraiser of the year. We began our tour getting tickets at The Athenaeum, which was built in 1852 in the Moorish Gothic style by Rev. Smith. Next up, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, located downtown, Columbia, built in 1831. The inside of the church is beautiful, but what I loved most was chatting with one of the local church members who’s been going to the church since he was a toddler; he’s now 84 years old. And we also chatted with the most charming Mr. Glenn Perry, the church organist since 1985; he was such a doll. Then we traveled west to the Wallace Home, a private residence owned by the Wallace family. This home was recently renovated in 2021, and every room was beautifully decorated for Christmas. This home was built for the Coffey family in 1915, and since then, it’s only had 2 other owners.
